As families across Okaikwei North continue to recover from the devastating effects of recent flooding, the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, has turned her attention to one of the most vulnerable groups affected by the disaster: pupils.
Recognising that many pupils lost school uniforms, learning materials and other personal belongings in the floods, the MP has begun providing uniforms and assorted essential supplies to support affected pupils and help them return to school with confidence and dignity.

The intervention forms part of Hon. Awuni’s broader commitment to ensuring that the long-term effects of the flooding do not derail the education and development of pupils within the constituency. Beyond meeting immediate humanitarian needs, the initiative seeks to restore a sense of normalcy for young learners whose families are rebuilding their lives.
Speaking on the importance of the exercise, the MP noted that recovery is not only about replacing damaged property but also about protecting the future of pupils. She stressed that every child deserves the opportunity to continue learning without the burden of circumstances beyond their control.

The distribution of uniforms and other items complements a series of relief efforts undertaken by Hon. Awuni following the floods. Earlier this week, she led the distribution of thousands of relief items, including blankets, mattresses, mosquito nets, food supplies and household essentials to affected residents in Alogboshie, while also advocating stronger enforcement against indiscriminate littering and illegal construction in waterways to reduce future flooding.
In addition to providing relief, Hon. Awuni has been engaging ministers and senior government officials to ensure that Okaikwei North remains a priority in the national flood response and recovery programme.

Residents have welcomed the latest intervention, describing it as a timely investment in the wellbeing of pupils and a reminder that disaster recovery extends beyond infrastructure to include education, opportunity and hope.
For many families, the support represents more than material assistance. It offers reassurance that even in the wake of disaster, the aspirations of Okaikwei North’s pupils remain worth protecting.
